Will Shah Rukh Khan play the lead in the Baazigar 2?
In a recent interview, producer Ratan Jain said that Shah Rukh Khan is still in talks for a possible sequel to 1993's Baazigar. Ratan stated in an interview with ETimes that he will only move forward with the film if SRK is there in the lead role, even if there are currently no set plans or a script in place.
While the concept is intriguing, he said, given the film's heritage and audience expectations, it would need a strong script and new director to live up to the original's high standards. "Baazigar 2 is something we keep discussing with Shah Rukh, but not much has happened yet, but it will undoubtedly be made," he stated.
Shah Rukh's career took a significant turn with Abbas-Mustan's Baazigar, which also opened the door for anti-heroes in Bollywood, which was previously known for its largely straight-arrow heroes. Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor were first offered the part, but both declined, so SRK took it instead. In the thriller, SRK plays Ajay Sharma/Vicky Malhotra, a young man seeking retribution against an entrepreneur for the death of his father.
The movie was a huge box office and critical hit. It also included Kajol and Shilpa Shetty's first appearance.
