Resul Pookutty responds to criticism of Kanguva music, saying, "The loudness war caught up with our craft and artistry."
Resul Pookutty is renowned for voicing his own thoughts, and he hasn't held back when discussing the unfavorable reviews given to some movies and the business as a whole. He criticized President Ram Nath Kovind's decision in 2018 to not present some of the awardees with the National Awards. He referred to Alia Bhatt's role in RRR in 2022 as merely a "prop." The Academy Award winner also had a comment regarding the highly anticipated Suriya film Kanguva, which opened in theaters today.
Resul posted a general analysis on Instagram that encapsulated the criticism of the movie's sound mixing and unclear dialogue: "A buddy of mine who works as a re-recording mixer sent me this footage. Seeing a critique like this regarding sound in our well-known movies is depressing. Who is to blame for our art and craft becoming lost in the noise war? Who's that sound guy? Or the countless solutions arrive at the last minute to satisfy every insecurity. It's time for our brotherhood to stand up and make our opinions known. If viewers leave a movie with a headache, it won't be worth seeing again.
It is important to keep in mind that Resul's comment appears to be more of a generalization regarding popular movies, using Kanguva as an example. Given that he is a well-known sound designer and mixer who won an Oscar for his work on Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, his opinions on the soundtrack of the Siva director's film are bound to provoke conversation among fans and movie buffs alike. Returning to Kanguva, filmmaker Siva also features Redin Kingsley, Bobby Deol, and Disha Patani.
