SCIENCE ONE WORDS
Chapter
– 5 Representative Study of Mammals:
1. Mammals are a divergent group
of animals, occupying different biomes of the environment, successfully
adapting to their habitats.
2. Hair is also a sensory structure,
as the whiskers of cats and dogs are sensitive to touch.
3. Mammals’
long, sharp, stiff hairs called quills
protect them from predators.
4. Habitat is the place where an
organism lives.
5. Mammals are warm-blooded or
homeotherms, maintain a constant body temperature, irrespective of the
temperature in the surroundings.
6. In
mammalian, RBC is fully packed with the respiratory red blood pigment called hemoglobin, to carry maximum amount of
oxygen.
7. The
heart is covered by a protective double layered membrane called pericardium filled with pericardial
fluid.
8. The
heart is made up of a special type of muscle, called cardiac muscle.
9. The right half of the heart receives and
pumps out deoxygenated blood and the left
half of the heart receives and pumps out oxygenated blood.
10. The auricles
are the thin-walled upper chambers of the heart.
11. The auricles
are divided into a right auricle and a left auricle, by a partition called inter-auricular septum.
12. The ventricles are the thick-walled lower
chambers of the heart.
13. There are
three distinct types of blood vessels namely, arteries, veins and capillaries.
14. Arteries carry the blood from
the heart to different parts of the body.
15. The aorta
branches into arteries and arteries branch into arterioles.
16. Arterioles
branch into fine tubes called meta
arterioles and the meta arterioles end up in the tiny blood vessels called capillaries.
17. Capillaries
are tiny blood vessels that form a network, called capillary network around the tissues.
18. The human
heart works by contraction and relaxation of the cardiac muscles.
19. The contraction
phase is called systole and
relaxation phase is called diastole.
20. The veins
carry the blood from different parts of the body to the heart.
21. The human
heart beats 72 times a minute when
the body is at rest.
22. The closure of the valves of the heart produces
two different cardiac sounds- “lubb” and
“dubb”.
23. Heartbeat is an
inherent capacity of the heart.
24. The heartbeat begins and is conducted by the
specialized muscle bundle in the
heart.
25. Man is an
intellectual social animal.
