is often symptom-less. Thus screening is vital.
What is high blood pressure?
In general, the higher the
pressure, the greater the risk of adverse effects. Any definition of high blood
pressure is arbitrary.
Symptoms Of Blood Pressure
Usually symptomless. It may
present as: heart failure, stroke, renal failure, myocardial infarct.
Signs Of Blood Pressure
High blood pressure. Look for
signs of: left ventricular hypertrophy, coarctation of aorta, polycystic kidneys,
renal artery stenosis (bruit over kidneys)
Causes of Blood Pressure
In 90% the
cause is unknown and these may represent the ‘normal’ spread within the
population. 10% may be caused by: Kidney disease. Coarctation of the aorta.
Drugs (steroids).
