Ducati 1199 Panigale
The long awaited replacement for the 1198 was shown to the world media and now the Panigale is all set to be launched in India as well. Ducati’s new generation Superbike, the 1199 Panigale, goes beyond the barriers of motorcycle design and engineering to set the most extreme benchmark ever and the direction for future sport bikes. Developed in the red-hot environment of racing and designed to raise the performance bar to its highest, the 1199 Panigale uses innovative Ducati Corse-derived solutions to make World Championship level technology available to everyone.
1199 Panigale the Ducati 1199 Panigale drops almost 10 kilos off the Superbike 1198′s design, while making an extra 20hp over its predecessor. Not only is the 1199 Panigale the lightest production superbike on the market, with its 164kg dry weight (187kg wet), it’s also one of the most powerful with its 195bhp peak power figure, courtesy of the Superquadro motor.
With the click of a button, Ducati’s Riding Mode concept delivers performance with enhanced rider confidence by combining seven class-leading technologies. The latest-generation sports ABS system, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES), Ducati Quick-Shift (DQS), Ducati’s new race-derived Engine Brake Control (EBC) and Ride-by-Wire (RbW) are now all programmed into seamless, electronic rider assistance. Even the full colour Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display changes to suit the rider’s environment.
Other firsts include a revolutionary monocoque frame, the first full-LED headlight on a motorcycle (another story we broke), the first electronically adjusted suspension on a sport bike, the first engine braking control system, as well as the first GPS-assisted data acquisition system for a production motorcycle (the DDA+ package is an optional equipment item for the Panigale). While traction control comes standard, ABS brakes will also be an optional item for the Ducati 1199 Panigale.
Expect the Panigale to be here in India by the end of 2012 and should be priced between 17-20 lakh rupees. The Panigale has ignited the spark of the Superbike wars again and will be fun to watch the Italian fight with the Bavarian best.
