How good does hand soap that is not anti bacterial kill germs and protect you from getting sick?

Antibacterial soap is not effective in killing germs when you wash your hands with it.
But it does wash the germs off, which is just as good. But then, regular soap is equally effective in washing off the germs.
Hand sanitizer does kill germs.
People who wash their hands and people who use hand sanitizer seem to be equally protected from illness
