The 50 best universities in the economies of the future
Beyond traditional universities in the US and Europe as Harvard, Oxford and Yale, which many students aspire to enter the world in the academic landscape increasingly universities in Southeast Asia and Africa up in the rankings and stand out as study alternative options.
The weekly magazine ‘Times Higher Education’ published the list of the top 100 universities of the so-called BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) recognized as emerging economies that will shape the course of the century.
The study took into account criteria such as thirteen indicators in teaching, research (quantity and reputation), knowledge transfer and international openness, and consulted with teachers, students, university leaders, spokesmen for the industry and governments.
One of the most prominent countries was China with four places in the top ten. Colombia is with the University of Los Andes in 17th place.
The Asian giant, according to the analysis of the Times Higher Education website, focused its efforts on making the pedagogy as “the heart of the nation”, and especially since 1990, has invested in science and technology.
Behind China – which together cover 42 positions- its neighbor Taiwan is located at 21 universities in the top hundred. India has ten representatives; Turkey seven; and South Africa and Thailand, five each.
The other countries that are considered emerging economies on the list are Egypt (3), Chile (2) Malaysia (2), Mexico (2), the UAE (two), Colombia (1) Morocco (1 ).
